Thirteen Reasons Why is a book about a high school girl that commits suicide. She creates thirteen tapes that explains why she took her own life. The main character in the book, Clay Jensen is a nice high school boy who was falling in love with Hannah. He is shocked when he finds out the she committed suicide and even more so when he finds out that one of her tapes is dedicated to him. The Netflix show premiered in March of 2017. The show was instantly popular and caused some passionate debates on the presentation of the serious topic of suicide. I was not incredibly impressed with the show which is why I personally think that the book surmounted the Netflix’s presentation. I found it extremely interesting to read from the point of view of someone who was truly disturbed by the death of Hannah. It showed the devastating impact that a death not only has on an entire community, but also on individual people. I think that a lot of people would enjoy this book, however, the topics that are presented in the book are incredibly dark and disturbing. I do think that even though the themes in the book are incredibly depressing, it is an important topic to read about and present to our community. The book is a reminder that you never know what an individual is going through which is why it is crucial to treat others with limitless amounts of love and compassion.
