Wicked is at the Fox Theatre! The national crew’s tour has finally come to Atlanta, and will be in town from October 23 to November 17. Leading the cast are stars Allison Bailey as Glinda, and Talia Suskauer, Elphaba. The play gives a totally new background for the Wizard of Oz. The audience is at first deceived by the stereotypes of Glinda and Elphaba. Glinda is the typical cheery, self-centered blonde who is the most “Popular,” while Elphaba is an unusually green-skinned girl with loads of smarts and a fiery personality. However, as the show progresses, the audience gains sympathy and understanding for the two unlikely friends. Throughout the trials and tribulations of the musical, the two will develop into the roles so familiar to us, as the Good Witch and the Wicked Witch of the West. At the end, there is a surprising little twist that will leave watchers invigorated and smiling. Emma Martin, 10th grade, a Wicked fan, said that, “Wicked has now been ‘defying gravity’ for 16 years and has changed the history of Broadway ‘for good.’” Wicked is full of life and is definitely worth the trip downtown.
