Roswell spring sports are in full swing, preparing for their upcoming seasons. The gymnastics team is no exception. As meet season begins, their everyday practices are becoming more intense, in order to prepare the team for the upcoming competitions. Captain and Senior Kennedy Walls talks about the upcoming season and a look behind the scenes of a traditional gymnastics meet. “A typical practice involves us going from 6:15-7:30 a.m. and do all the events, spending more time on some more than others.” In addition to learning and reviewing the required events, the teammates must place in order to continue with their season. “They’re set up like the Olympics and you have four events to compete on.” Although age and skill may vary throughout the team and meet, “they could be doing cartwheels and forward rolls the entire time or they could be doing double backs and front fulls on the floor.”

In addition to her role as a senior, Kennedy also expanded on her role as a captain this year and the responsibilities that follow: “As a captain I try and encourage everyone to stay focused and have fun, but I also have responsibilities outside of the gym such as t-shirt and hoodie designs, bows, and any kind of additional team bonding we feel we should do.” The season is looking bright and promising for the team after winning the Norwood/ Floyd Invitational at Dunwoody last year. In addition the 2017 girls JV team took home 3rd place in the North Metro meet and moved onto the first round of state qualifiers. The team is working towards a state title this year, putting in hard work and long practices as spring sports begin to take their rise. Overall the team is prepared for the upcoming season and welcomes all the exciting new wins to come!
