WEEK ONE: Roswell @ Peachtree Ridge (21-6) Win
The team started the year on the road with a simple but effective win over the Peachtree Ridge Lions, 21-6. The defense did a solid job halting the Lions’ offense, only allowing six points and four rushing yards. The senior duo of linebacker (7) Ryder Duffy and edge rusher (3) Tyler Harrison combined for four sacks in the victory. Despite the strong performance of the defensive ground game, the offense did their fair share as well. Sacking the quarterback a total of nine times, four of which came from Senior (11) edge rusher Kobby Sakyi-Prah.
WEEK THREE: Buford @ Roswell (52-17) Loss
The team eventually took their first loss of the year. The offense significantly declined in production after the team’s top player, Synkwan Smith, suffered a lower leg injury that forced him to leave the game in a boot. The defense also played not up to par, allowing nearly 300 rushing yards in the loss. More positive news is that Junior kicker (26) Balint Vorosmarty made his first field goal of the year.
WEEK FOUR: Westlake @ Roswell (42-35) Win
After the devastating loss in week three, the Hornets rebounded with an impressive offensive victory against Westlake. Trey Smith put the team on his back, rushing for 162 yards and two scores. On the other side of the ball, Kobby Sakyi-Prah continued to chase the quarterback, earning himself two sacks and three tackles for loss.
WEEK FIVE: Seckinger @ Roswell (42-10) Win
After improving to a 3-1 record to start the season, the Hornets showcased the strength of the running game. Despite missing the team’s starting halfback, the offense did not slow down in the run game. Junior (21) Nick Peal had his first breakout game of the year, rushing for 100 yards even and finding the endzone three separate times. Roswell’s Travis Hunter, Senior (1) Nitro Davenport, snagged his first interception on the year while also having an offensive catch for 13 yards. The D-line had another great game, recording six sacks with the senior interior tandem of (45) Nile Smith and (44) Nigel Hall, both earning a sack respectively.
WEEK SIX: Johns Creek @ Roswell (45-0) Win
The football team continued to light up offensively, scoring over 40 points for two consecutive weeks. WEEK SEVEN: Roswell @ Chattahoochee (63-7) Win
The Hornets were on the road for the first time in six weeks of play. Although the location differed, the team’s incredible play did not, as they scored a season-high 63 points. Although the team won, the defense lost two key players, Tyler Harrison and Kobby Sakyi-Prah. Unfortunately, both players would miss the rest of the regular season. Despite the losses, the defense stood their ground, holding Chattahoochee to only a single rushing yard. Junior linebacker (33) Brody Duffy had a stellar game especially, reaching a total of 12 tackles and two pass deflections in the dominating win.
WEEK EIGHT: Roswell @ Lanier (59-42) Win
For the team’s second consecutive away game, they traveled over 30 miles to take on the highly ranked Lanier Longhorns. The game was a unique clash of offense and defense, with both sides of the ball making remarkable plays. Sophomore cornerback (35) Ian Foust had an All-time level performance, recording three interceptions, one of which he ran back for six. This game was also Synkwan Smith’s first full game back since his injury in week three. With Smith’s return and the dual-threat ability of Trey Smith, the run game was on full display, boasting 339 yards and seven touchdowns on the ground. Big credit goes to the offensive line to accomplish this huge success, with the interior trio of Seniors Nathan Stubblefield, Andrew Ryan, Kevin Guardado leading the way.
WEEK NINE: Gainesville @ Roswell (48-45) Win
In another exciting game, the Hornets faced Gainesville in a highly scouted matchup. This game would determine who would fight for first place in Region 7, meaning there was a lot on the line. The game would come down to the wire, with both teams giving it all. The Hornet’s offense would combine for seven total touchdowns, four of which came from Trey Smith. But it would be the defense that made the final play. With seconds left on the clock, the Swiss army knife, Nick Peal, would push a Gainesville receiver out of bounds to win the game for the team in an absolute thriller.
WEEK TEN: Roswell @ Milton (35-20) Loss
One of the biggest rivalries in Georgia, the Hornets would take on the Milton Eagles for the region championship. Both teams would be nearly even heading into halftime, 21-20. Big plays were the centerpiece of the matchup, including an 80-yard touchdown scored by Nitro Davenport. However, due to irresponsible penalties on the Hornets, the game would start to lean in Milton’s favor. The Hornets would be shut out in the second half, ending the night second in the Region 7 division.
