“Anno 1800” is an upcoming video game that is currently under development by Blue Byte and will be published by Ubisoft. The game is based on city building and real-time strategy. It will be the seventh installment of the “Anno” series. The game will be released on Apr. 16 for Microsoft Windows. Set in the 1800s, the player has the chance to experience what the Industrialization Age was like.

Before I get to all the information about “Anno 1800”,  “Anno” is a video game series reflecting on Earth’s history and its future. Examples include “Anno 1503: The New World” and “Anno 2070”, where global warming has melted the Arctic ice cap, which caused much of the land to be submerged underwater. For gameplay, players will have to focus on colony establishment, exploration, diplomacy, and trading with other colonies while managing their own resources and battle.

As for “Anno 1800” itself, the game will include a story campaign, multiplayer, and a sandbox mode. Sandbox is a type of game that has little limits on the gameplay, allowing the player to create, manipulate, or destroy the environment. It’s like making your own story, and games like “Minecraft” could tell you that. Maps will be randomly generated and the AI (artificial intelligence) will have their own colonies. But hey, trading is still an option.

Industrialization is the societal and economic change from an agricultural society to an industrial society. Therefore, it should be that the theme of the game has got to do more than be there for show. Industrialization influences all aspects of gameplay, ranging from environmental effects like air pollution and societal effects like workers going on strikes.

New features are to be added to the game. The new blueprint mode allows the player to plan out their city with “blueprint” buildings without having to spend valuable resources on building them. Players can save their blueprints if they don’t have enough resources. And since tourism is a part of this game, take advantage of the “attractiveness” concept. This will help with the city’s income. To give a head start on that, pay attention to what the tourists like and dislike. For example, they like the natural land but dislike pollution.

I would recommend this game since the new features and the extra sense of realism towards industrialization allows this game to be worthy of giving it a go. What is next in store? The Bronze Age? Anymore futuristic-looking games? Only time will tell.
