The first quarter saw both teams losing fumbles on their opening possessions. However, it was the Hornets who drew first blood, as Ethan Roberts (12) found a wide-open Marquis Willis (11) for a 48-yard touchdown. This ended up being one of only three passes thrown by the Hornets quarterback. The extra point by Brian Najar (11) opened up a 7-0 lead for Roswell. After the two teams traded 3-and-outs, it took just 4 plays for the Hornets to find the end zone again, as Ryan Hill (10) pounded the ball in from the 8. Following the extra point, Roswell lead 14-0. The first quarter ended with the aforementioned scoreline.

On the opening play of the 2nd quarter, Braden Lind (11) badly overthrew his intended receiver, allowing it to be picked off by John-Michael DiRoberto (12). He ran it all the way back for a touchdown, extending Roswell’s lead to 21-0. 4 possessions later, the Lassiter Trojans found themselves inside their own 5-yard line. Instead of running the ball, the Trojans elected to throw, presumably to catch the Hornets off-guard. This decision proved very costly for Lassiter, as Doneiko Slaughter (12) jumped the intended receiver’s route, running it back for an easy touchdown. Said Slaughter on the interception: “I knew it was going to be a pass play. D-Line was unstoppable, so he had to get the ball out quick”. The lead stayed 28-0 going into halftime.

In the second half, the Hornets did nothing but run the ball. On their opening possession, Roswell fed running backs Ryan Hill and Saveon McCrary (12), driving 70 yards in 14 plays for another touchdown. This made it 35-0 in favor of the visitors. During the subsequent Trojan possession, DiRoberto seemed to bag another interception, but it was called back due to a personal foul, which resulted in an ejection.

The third quarter comes to a close with the Hornets leading the Trojans, 35-0.

This did not end up mattering, as four plays later, the Hornets’ defense forced a field goal attempt, which was blocked. In the process of blocking the attempt, Doneiko Slaughter appeared to injure his left hand. Said Slaughter on Oct. 21: “My hand should be fine… I got it taped up and should be able to play on Friday”. Lassiter remained scoreless. 12 plays later, Nnamdi Orjioke (12) found the endzone on a 3 yard run. 42-0 Roswell. Although Lassiter would manage to get on the board on their next offensive possession, the Hornets would see the game out.

With the 42-6 win, Roswell improves to 4-2 on the year, as well as 4th place in 7A Region 4. This is additionally their first region victory. Up next are the Walton Raiders, who currently sit atop Region 4 at 4-3 overall and 2-0 in the region. This Region 4 showdown is a home game, taking place Friday night at 7:30 pm.
