Flu and cold season is upon us, so it’s more important than ever to practice good hygiene habits! There are many steps to take to stay healthy during the winter.
Wash your hands. This sounds basic, but it’s very important to prevent the spread of germs.
Dress warmly. Nobody wants to be wearing seven layers at the football game, but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.
Get enough sleep. One reason so many high schoolers get sick during the winter is because of stress, exhaustion, and over-exertion.
Eat balanced meals! Fruits and vegetables make us feel clean and healthy, while protein and other foods of substance give us energy and a full feeling.
Get your flu shot. Some people think the vaccine doesn’t work, but a little protection is better than nothing! Make time to go to the doctor or just your local pharmacy and get that flu shot!
Sometimes, no matter what you do, your body gets sick. In this case, here are steps you can take to get better:
The above steps still apply! Make sure to follow these religiously.
Drink tea! Peppermint and Throat Coat flavors can really help.
If you have a sore throat, gargle warm salt water. If you have a cough, swallow a teaspoon of honey.
There’s not much you can do for a runny nose, but carrying packs of tissues can be a lifesaver!
Essential oils can prove effective, too. Try Eucalyptus, Bergamot, and Lavender oils.
Finally, listening to your body and making wise decisions is the best thing you can do. Sometimes, you just have to miss school. We all want to exempt final exams come December, but your health comes first!
Good luck this flu season!
