“The Perks of Being a Wallflower” has been around for a while, enough time for it to become a household name. The story centers around Charlie, a socially awkward teenager dealing with the stress and trauma of the past. He makes new friends, deepens relationships with his family, and learns to “participate” in high school. Charlie grows as a person and does things he never could have done on his own.
This book is very heavy. Stephen Chbosky delivers a moving, emotional story with aspects that most readers are able to relate to. He deals with subjects such as teen suicide, bullying, LGBTQ+ youth, sexual and domestic abuse, abortion, and depression. Charlie’s story has become a fan favorite and was even made into a movie with stars such as Emma Watson, Paul Rudd, Ezra Miller, and Logan Lerman.
