Review of Turtlenecks Coming Back into Style and Ways to Wear Them

Turtlenecks have been a popular trend for many decades internationally. Not only do they keep a person’s neck warm, they are very fashionable and come in many different colors and styles to accompany all looks. Turtlenecks made their first popular appearance in the 1920’s amongst the middle class society, but existed even earlier. They then began to taper off in the 1980’s, 1990’s, and early 2000’s. However, many people are beginning to find new ways to style them, creating new trends for 2021.
Turtlenecks can be worn by any gender, making them an even more appealing and fashionable article of clothing. Men tend to wear them under sweaters or under suit jackets nowadays, while women tend to wear them under a cardigan or an oversized vintage sweatshirt. Some women, especially young teens, enjoy wearing long sleeve turtleneck shirts underneath large short sleeve t-shirts as well.
In present day, turtlenecks are used to show a sleek sense of style, but back then, they were mostly worn by adults or children who were more conservative and religious. Many were attempting modesty by wearing these full coverage shirts. Not only did they wear them for modesty, but also to keep warm.
Turtlenecks can be found at a wide variety of clothing stores. Women or teens today tend to look in stores like Free People, Urban Outfitters, and Pacsun for a trendy look. These turtlenecks tend to be more of a cotton-like thin material, rather than a wool knit sweater. However, shoppers can still find turtleneck sweaters in stores like these, or even thrift stores, for a more vintage or worn down look. These stores may be expensive options, so one can find cheaper turtlenecks at bigger stores like Target and Walmart. Men, on the other hand, can find fashionable turtlenecks at stores like L.L. Bean, Old Navy, and H&M.
Turtlenecks are a great style for the winter time and can be worn with almost anything. Every turtleneck is different, so do not be afraid to be unique! Add one of these shirts to your wardrobe to be a part of the recurring trend!
