Why Gen Z supports President Biden’s Green New Deal
February 10, 2021
Climate change is a change in global or regional climate patterns, in particular, a change apparent from the mid to late 20th century onwards and attributed largely to the increased levels of atmospheric carbon dioxide produced by the use of fossil fuels.
In order to make these changes so small we are able to feel them, people have designed new inventions, like clean energy with the help of solar panels. Small technologies like this one can help not just the planet but our new generations. An example of this new generation can be Gen Z.
Other inventions that have helped us to help our planet and future generations are agreements like the “Paris Agreement,” which is an agreement within the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. This agreement was signed in 2016 when humans start to discover that our world also needed our help in order to survive.
Because these agreements are very old and climate change is occurring quickly, some countries are designing new ways to improve their help, or have created national agreements in order to keep homes safe.
One example of this agreement is the “Green New Deal,” which is a national agreement. This agreement would invest in more smart infrastructure to rebuild the United States and ensure that our buildings, water, transportation, and energy infrastructure will withstand the impacts of climate change. The “Green New Deal” would be introduced by the 46th President of the United States. To inform yourself more about the “Green New Deal,” click here.
In today’s society there is a big question. The question asks about the fact that if new generations would help the planet more and would help or choose leaders that represent solutions to this problem. One generation in which people have a big expectation that would help our planet to stay safe is Gen Z. This is why the Roswell Sting took some time to take a look on how Gen Z feel about President Biden’s “Green New Deal.”
Kimberly Sotelo, a junior at Forsyth Central High School, decided to share the way she feels so we can have a better expectation of Gen Z. Before any questions, Kimberly Sotelo showed a lot of support to the president’s “Green New Deal.” Another thing Kimberly Sotelo was asked was on the changes in the energy sector. Kimberly thinks that with the change of energy infrastructure more jobs will be created. Kimberly Sotelo also expresses the fact that the government should teach the people on the old energy sector on how to do a new job in the new sector so not any family in this sector loses their jobs and their families can be stable in the country. Kimberly also thinks that in order for new generations to accept these new agreements, the older generations must support them. These new generations need to be introduced to these topics through education. This education needs to include what can be done to help the environment and what will happen if we do not help.
The Roswell Sting also wanted to see what people expected from Gen Z, and because of this the Roswell Sting interviewed Ms. Hartigan, an environmental science and biology teacher at Roswell High School. Ms. Hartigan thinks that Gen Z will accept more to help the environment because with today’s problems this generation are a lot more informed about this topic. The older generations were not exposed to climate change information as much as Gen Z. Ms. Hartigan also wants to inform everyone that this is not a “national problem, it’s a global issue.” Ms. Hartigan thinks that one way to help the problem is stop eating meat, and if you do not want to, try to reduce the amount that you eat. Ms. Hartigan also wants to remind you that with small “decisions come big changes.”

Its good to know that Gen Z are showing atention to this kind of issue by getting more informed, now in days they have more ways to investigate and come up with much better solutions. This can make a really big impact even for future generations, can’t wait to see big changes for our planet!
