Kings of Leon: When You See Yourself

Kings of Leon is an alternative rock band that became popular in the early 2000s. In early March 2021, they released new album titled When You See Yourself. The album contains ten songs: When You See Yourself Are You Far Away, The Bandit, 100,000 People, Stormy Weather, A Wave, Golden Restless Age, Time in Disguise, Supermarket, Claire & Eddie, Echoing, and Fairytale. The album was made during the Covid-19 pandemic in a way to romanticize your life because you never know what is going to happen.

In an interview with Apple Music, the artists from the band gave a few words about the creation of the album: “I wrote songs about youth, I wrote songs about being at the age where everything feels like it’s going so slow you want to get out of your reality. A lot of the lyrics are just coming to terms with what’s to come and what has already happened. I don’t know what was going on.” “There was a lot of talk about getting back to a place we were earlier, where we made music that we put a little bit more effort and thought into,” their bassist Jared Followill added.

The most listened to song on their album is “The Bandit.” The song is four minutes and eleven seconds and has over 10,000,000 streams on its own. In the same interview with Apple Music, one of the artists Caleb Followill said a few words about the song “I really dug deep into my love of Townes Van Zandt and Willie Nelson and stuff like that. I was like, ‘I’m going to write a song about a bandit, and then a bounty hunter who’s paid to find this man.’ In the meantime, they become such a part of each other’s life that they’re the two people that matter the most to them. The chase is more thrilling than the catch.” The song is a mix between rock, folk, indie music. After listening to the album it is also my favorite from this album as well.

Kings of Leon’s most listened-to song is “Sex on Fire,” which is shy of 700,000,000 listens on Spotify while their most popular song from this album “The Bandit” is shy of 12,000,000. Their music is similar to that of Paramore, All Time Low, and other early 2000s bands that have a grunge background to their music. Their music hasn’t shifted too much from the beginning of their band meaning they have kept to the same audience since the beginning of their band. With over 13,000,000 monthly listeners on Spotify, Kings of Leon’s new album is one to listen to.
