This year’s first round of the NFL Draft will take place Thursday April 29 on ESPN at 8:00pm. Within the top 5 selections of the first round, you simply cannot go wrong. These players are all top notch and differ in positions ranging from QB, TE, and OL. These teams cannot wait to select their new rookies and watch them dominate on the field.

The number one overall pick in this year’s draft goes to the Jacksonville Jaguars. In need of a QB, the Jaguars will most likely select Clemson QB Trevor Lawrence. Lawrence being 6’6 allows him to see over the defense and make efficient throws. Leading his team to a national championship, Lawrence already shows great leadership and motivational skills. Could this be the Jaguars franchise QB? “Lawrence has been the presumptive No. 1 overall by the Jaguars since they clinched the top spot in late December. Nothing changes heading into draft night.” – (John Reid, Florida Times-UnionUSA Today NFL Mock Draft

The Jets will receive the second pick in the draft year this year. In hopes of a franchise QB will select Zach Wilson from BYU. The QB 1 spot is currently empty for the Jets since former QB Sam Darnold joined the Carolina Panthers. “He needs to build an offense around Wilson so he can succeed. And he needs to do it quickly, because barring any unforeseen setback, Wilson will be the Jets’ Day 1 starter,” says the New York Post’s Mark Cannizzaro on Jets GM Joe Douglas. NY Post Draft Info

San Francisco will receive the third pick in the draft. This will be an extremely tough pick for the 49ers. Not only have two of the best QB’s in the draft been snagged off the board, but now, they have a choice whether they want to follow in the footsteps of the previous team in selecting a QB or being the first team to select a different skilled position. Although it seems intriguing to pick up a WR or TE, the next best option for San Francisco is QB Justin Fields from Ohio State. This would be a solid pickup due to the inconsistency of 49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo that tends to deal with constant injuries. CBS Sports Glynn Morgan says, “nabbing an athletic, intelligent, strong-armed quarterback like Fields, offers a higher ceiling at the position than an injury plagued Jimmy Garoppolo represents.” NBC Sports

With the fourth pick in the draft, the Atlanta falcons will select WR Ja’ Marr Chase out of LSU. The Falcons are in no need of a QB since they have former MVP Matt Ryan. With WR Julio Jones in trade talks, the Falcons could potentially use a new weapon on offense. Chase is a great at route running and can catch extreme balls when thrown. Chase would also fit well with the Atlanta throw first offense.

Cincinnati will receive the 5th pick in the draft. The Bengals best option is OL Penei Sewell from Oregon University. The former Oregon Duck weighs in at 330 pounds and is 6’6. Sewell would be used immediately protecting QB Joe Burrow and could provide him plenty of time within the pocket. “Sewell has ideal size, quickness and power for the position. In the passing game, he is quick out of his stance and does a nice job of staying square against his opponent,” says NFL Media analyst Daniel Jeremiah. Penei Sewell Scouting Report
