Black Widow fans have finally gotten their long-awaited Marvel spin-off movie. “Black Widow” gives us insight into Natasha Romanoff, whom in previous movies has shown she’s an Avenger, but we never understood where those Avenger powers came from. Notable actors starring in the film include Florence Pugh, Rachel Weisz, David Harbour, Ray Winston, and Scarlet Johansson, who plays the main character Natasha. Natasha has a younger sister named Yelena, a fiery yet compassionate assassin unknowingly working for The Red Room. With this movie comes the backstory of Yelena and Natahsa’s upbringing.

The film is easily Marvel’s most feminist movie. We get to see that most of the characters were strong women who fought for themselves and didn’t need any men to help. I’m glad Marvel is finally including more empowered women for kid’s role models.

There were plenty of action shots, comical and sentimental scenes. I’m a sucker for action movies so I loved every second of it. I did find it extremely funny when Natasha first encountered the Taskmaster (the movies bad guy – well bad gal), the song Cheap Thrills by Sia was playing on the radio. Imagine getting blown up while Sia is playing…embarrassing. Throughout the movie I loved how we got to connect more to the characters. I especially connected to Yelena, I mean how could you not, she’s the film’s comic relief!

Overall, I would rate this movie a 9/10 only because I felt as if some moments were not necessary and made the movie long. There were a few scenes that dragged on and made me get up and get a snack or doze off.  I’d recommend this film to action movie lovers and fans of Black Widow. Scarlett Johansson and many others have been waiting a long time for this film, showing one of the most underrated Avengers. Stay tuned for the next Monthly Marvel review!
