When choosing a tropical location to go on vacation, there are many destinations that have the perfect mix of shopping, relaxation and delicious food. St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands is the perfect destination for families and adults. The island has many beautiful white sand beaches with crystal clear water that are perfect for a snorkeling adventure. There is also plenty of shopping whether you are looking for a place to buy clothes, trinkets or even fancy jewelry.

A popular activity in St. Thomas is chartering a boat for the day and spending time on the water. Local captains will take you to the best snorkeling locations where you are able to see many fish, stingrays, turtles and even sharks. One of the most popular snorkeling spots is Christmas Cove which is known for being a home for sea turtles. We were able to see turtles and fish right from our boat. Another desirable aspect of boating on the ocean is you can access snorkeling spots that you would never see from the beach. Little Saint James Island is an amazing place to snorkel that is only accessible by boat. The most amazing thing we saw while snorkeling was a spotted eagle ray which had a huge barb and swam quickly below us before disappearing into the ocean.

I enjoyed the shopping, specifically in Red Hook which is a popular area for tourists with stores and restaurants. There were many stores where you could buy inexpensive merchandise to remember your vacation. However, there were a few high-end stores that had a variety of jewelry and nice clothes. Red Hook also has several great restaurants, including Agave, which has delicious fresh Mexican food. They have something for everyone including nachos, burritos and tacos. Next door to Agave there is a delicious Italian restaurant called Pesce that serves every pasta you can imagine. If it is your birthday, many restaurants around the island will bring you a dessert with a giant sparkler coming out of the top.

St. Thomas isn’t the only island that makes up the US Virgin Islands. There are two other popular destinations which are St. Croix and St. John. A quick boat ride on the ferry will get you from St. Thomas to St. John in under 30 minutes. St. John has many popular beaches including Trunk Bay, Honeymoon Beach and Cinnamon Bay. This is a great day trip to take or an amazing place to spend part of your vacation. There are many locals in St. John that will give you a ride in their taxi to the dock, beaches or shopping area. The area surrounding the dock also has many delicious restaurants, including Longboard. It is a small outdoor restaurant which is very popular, but if you have time to wait it’s definitely worth it.

Although I enjoyed spending time at the beach, my favorite part of the vacation was spending time on the water with my family. St. Thomas is the perfect vacation spot whether you are adventurous or like to relax and enjoy the beautiful views. The island is also home to many unique animals including donkeys, iguanas, and goats. Overall, I rate my trip to St. Thomas a 9/10 because of the delicious food, pretty sights and the amazing ocean life.
