Raiders Get A Win Over the Hornets in Spring Football

Laurel Davis, Page Editor

Our very own Roswell Hornets faced the Walton Raiders this Friday, May 13th at Ray Manus Stadium. Sadly, the Hornets did not come out on top. But this game was only a scrimmage that didn’t count against the Hornets. Many Hornet fans came out to cheer the boys on, even through a loss. The theme for this scrimmage was “Tacky Summer”, and many fans participated.

2nd quarter recap:

Neither team scores.

During halftime, there were storms surrounding the area and Roswell was put on a lightning watch. Unfortunately, this did push the second half of the game back a little bit, but by 9:00, the Hornets were back out on the field and the game resumed.

3rd quarter recap:

Walton scores on a touchdown, kick is good. Score is now 3-27, Raiders.

End of third- 27-24, Raiders.

4th quarter recap:

Roswell scores with a field goal, and the kick is good. This ties the game up with the score being 27-27. This is the closest the score has been all game. A serious nailbiter for the Hornets on the field and in the stands.

At the start of the fourth quarter, the rising 9th graders came out to show off some of their skills. This was a preview to the way they’re going to play during their 9th grade season in 2022-23.

Walton scores on a touchdown, no kick is needed. Score is now 33-27, Raiders ending the game and giving Walton the win.

This game definitely had everyone on the edge of their seats, but fortunately this was only a scrimmage that previewed the fall-season, so it didn’t count against the Hornets record. Even though Walton took the win over the hornets, the boys fought long and played their hardest keeping the score close.
