This year Roswell gained 16 new teachers. From teachers in ELA to Spanish to Orchestra, all of these teachers are happy and proud to be at Roswell.
Joseph Doan is new at Roswell this year and this year he is teaching math. Mr. Doan came from Creekview Highschool where he taught Honors Geometry. This is his first year of teaching but not his first time being in a school environment because last year he filled his time long term subbing and teaching students.
“Math can be a very challenging subject for many students, I enjoy when students have that lightbulb, they finally get it,” he said. As well as just teaching math, Mr. Doan also enjoys everything to do with San Jose, California. “I’m actually from California so I just like everything from California and the bay,” he said.
Mr. Doan’s positive attitude and enthusiasm as well as passion for teaching math can help his students feel like they can succeed. He also gives good tips on how his students and other students of Roswell can be successful.
“Time management is very important. I know a lot of students have a lot of things going on in their life so as long as you can manage, social life, academics, and your time, you should be fine,” he said.
Analisa Chang is also new this year at Roswell. She is our new Orchestra teacher, but this is not her first time teaching. Ms. Chang has been teaching for 16 years. She spent here first 5 years teaching in North Carolina where she then moved to Tallahassee Florida to teach Orchestra while she was a graduate student at Florida State University.
“I taught for 3 years in Florida and then for the last 7 years I was director of music education at Clayton State University so I was training future music teachers and I really wanted to come back to the classroom, so I’m back!” she said.
Ms. Doan recalled that in her high school life she was fortunate to have good music teachers. “Not everyone has that opportunity and playing violin for me was a way for me to pay for undergraduate degree and I got there are really liked it, and stayed ever since,” she said.
Kevin Squires is also one of our new teachers here at Roswell. He is teaching construction and is going on his 15th year of teaching. Previously Mr. Squires taught at Crabapple Middle School. Although he is now a construction teacher, Mr. Squires did not start off as a teacher.
“Well, I was in construction for many years, sold my business, wasn’t thinking about going into it but some buddies talked me into teaching it,” he said. Good thing for his buddies, because Roswell is proud to have him here to teach.
“I wanted to give back because so many gave to me in construction,” he added.
“I always say the road to success is under construction, so just keep working hard and do something you like, and youll never work a day in your life,” he said.
Mr. Squires passion for Construction and commitment to teaching makes him a key role model for Roswell and he inspires us to build not just structures, but also our future with skill and confidence.
With their enthusiasm and expertise, the new teachers at Roswell High are sure to make this school year an unforgettable and enriching experience for all students.
