The Roswell Competition Cheer team wrapped up their 2024 season with an impressive 4th place finish at the GHSA 5A State Championship on Saturday, Nov. 16, in Macon, Georgia. This marks the highest placement in Roswell’s history, capping off six months of hard work and dedication.
The team earned their spot at State after competing in Sectionals Nov. 9 and placing 4th overall. With a roster of 15+ cheerleaders, including 7 seniors, the team showcased their talent in the Coed Division.
The 2024 roster: Caroline Doyle (12) Gabby Johnson (9) Macy Lawrence (12) Addison Manthey (12) Keira Mainella (12) Addi North (12) Alice Plunkett (9) Emma Scherck (9) Landon Utz (9) Mei Le Tang (9) Coco Teat (9) Romy Teat (11) Azlyn Walker (12) Merrick Winters (12) Braxton Wright (9) Karlie Zabrocki (10) Sheridan Zavodny (11).
To celebrate the teams’ achievements and send them off to State, students and teachers lined the hallways, and the Roswell Police Department escorted the bus out of the parking lot with sirens and lights. Once in Macon, the team prepared for their performance by warming up on the mats and focusing on stunts, tumbling, and jumps.
Following the competition, the team attended an annual dinner to celebrate their successful season. Each cheerleader received a pair of customized green Nike dunks with the team motto, “H.O.T.”-representing “Hornets on Top”-printed on the back.
Addi North (12), a senior Cheer Captain for the 2024 season, had some positive words to share about her final time going to this decorated event.
“I am so excited to compete at State. I cannot help but feel a little sad because it will be my last time competing. But I would not want to end my time cheerleading with any other team.” North said.
Karlie Zabrocki (10) a sophomore was also quick to give praise.
“My favorite memory from this season is getting a higher score in every competition we compete at, along with winning the competitions. I also love the proud feeling when we finish our routine, and we walk off as team and get to celebrate our successes with our team.” Karlie Zabrocki said.
The Roswell Competition Cheer team’s 4th-place finish is a testament to their commitment, teamwork, and passion for the sport. Thier historic performance will be remembered as a highlight of the 2024 season.
