The team has won lots of awards in the past couple of years. Most recently, they won the District Event Finalist and Team Spirit Awards at the PCH District Gainesville Event. They won four awards in 2023, which were the District Event Finalist, Team Sustainability Award, and the two Team Spirit Awards.
This year’s theme is Reefscape, so the scene is set deep in the ocean. There are two alliances, each with three teams. One team is red while the other is blue, which have their respective sides of the arena. The goal of the game is to get the highest number of points. They can be scored with either coral or algae. Coral scoring is where a human player pushes PVC pipes into the field, then the robot scores them. Algae, rubber balls, are scored through the processor or the net.
To even get to the competition, they have to build the robot. The first step is for the designers to decide on the design. They order pieces from an outside company, then electrical workers figure out how to run the wheels. When they get the parts from the company, the mechanics put them together. Everything is wired and finally the programmers program it.
Lobster was made for this season. He can use swerve drive (360 degrees), a claw, and is autonomous. Finally, he can leave the starting zone.
Members say the hardest part this year was the design process. It took months for everyone to agree on it. However, the easy part was putting the parts together after they got delivered. And, of course, their favorite thing is the competitions.
This team had a lot of potential in the competition. The crowds roared as Lobster took the field. We wish O.S.C.A.R robotics good luck on their journey. You can support them by using this website.
