Mr. Waldroup starts off the interview with a grin. The joy never leaves his face whether he is recounting the morning of his recent Teacher of the Year win or his time with his family and children. This teacher’s infectious joy isn’t limited to himself. Students receive this joy everyday with Waldroup’s incredible passion for teaching. With thirteen years at Roswell High School, his experience and skill has made him the perfect Teacher of the Year for 2019.  As for the moment of winning, Waldroup said it was a “good way to start the morning” and that “it was humbling to win that because there are so many good teachers here at Roswell”. While there are many good teachers at Roswell, it’s apparent that Waldroup is one of the best. He has been nominated for Teacher of the Year in previous years, but this is his first win. When asked about what was rewarding about his job, Waldroup stated that teaching was “getting to do an important job with people that I think are important and worthy of attention.”

Waldroup’s incredible impact on students is what sets him apart from other teachers. Teaching is a career that has an impact on students during an important time in their lives. “I really just like getting to meet a bunch of student and teach them about stuff that I think is important, how the world works, how the economy works,” said Mr. Waldroup.

By being an effective teacher, as well as an exemplary faculty member, Waldroup has shown Roswell High School what it means to not just be a good teacher, but a great teacher.
