Why Fall Is The Superior Season
November 4, 2020
Just in the past week, temperatures have changed from a blazing 80 degrees to a cool and comfortable 65 degrees. This shift in temperature is not just a fluke in the weather, but rather the indication of the beginning of the superior season, fall. Fall out performs all other seasons in its positive characteristics and lack of unfavorable qualities.
One outstanding attribute of fall is its perfect temperatures and weather. In the summer I often find myself overheating and in the winter, I feel very uncomfortable in the layers of clothing necessary to retain heat, but fall temperatures are a perfect compromise between the two. In the fall season, one can go outside and enjoy the sun, while a refreshing breeze blows their hair and tickles their nose and without the worries of heat exhaustion and frostbite that summer and winter coincide with.
Junior Phoebe Rathbun says, “The temperature is just right and you can wear a sweatshirt, but it isn’t too cold.” Rathbun also shared that she likes fall because “all the leaves change colors and become pretty shades of red and orange”.
Not only does fall bring ideal temperatures and a beautiful new color scheme, but it also encompasses two holidays and the ability to participate in thrilling pastimes exclusive to fall. Thanksgiving is one of the two holidays celebrated during the fall season and centers around the universally enjoyed activities of eating and giving thanks. This helps put fall in the front of the running for best season because it is the only American holiday solely dedicated to stuffing ones face with enormous amounts of food. Fall also includes Halloween which brings along the opportunity for unforgettable experiences such as pumpkin carving, costume parties, haunted houses, trick-or-treating, and so much more.
When asked what she enjoyed about fall, Junior, Emma Martin responded, “Fall is my favorite season because of all of the fun activities I get to do with my friends!”.
If the two holidays, immaculate temperatures, and the abundance of fall-specific activities are not quite convincing enough, consider all of the fall themed beverages and menu-items available only during the fall, such as pumpkin bread and the infamous Pumpkin Spice Latte sold at Starbucks.
Fall outranks summer, winter, and spring because of its flawless weather, the aesthetically pleasing red and orange color scheme, the wide-variety of activities and fall-themed food items to enjoy, and its lack of any negative characteristics.
