Sleep Paralysis Struggles

Katherine Holloway, Staff Writer

Sleep paralysis is a momentary inability to move or speak upon waking or falling asleep. While it can feel like it is going on forever to the sufferer, it only occurs for about 2 minutes. Taking a look into the all-fearful sleep paralysis can make one wonder. What do the people experience?

The paranormal?

Some believe it has to do with the many paranormal theories that have surrounded sleep paralysis in it having to do with witches, demons, or other paranormal anomalies.

Many mediums have talked about sleep paralysis and possible causes; one of the most known paranormal investigators, Ed and Loraine Warren, discussed how it could be a demon.

When they went to one of their most famous cases, and now a movie franchise, the original conjuring house, the Parron family’s daughter reported having sleep paralysis every night until they eventually moved houses they believe it was due to the hauntings of the house.

What Scientist says

Sleep specialist Clete Kushida says, “Nappers seem more prone to sleep paralysis than non-nappers, unless the nappers always sleep at the same time each day.”

According to doctors, people who are sleep deprived enter rem sleep very quickly, which means they’re still awake as their body becomes paralyzed.

Could this also cause sleep paralysis as many doctors and sleep specialists have been studying the human brain for years, so it begs the question, which is correct?

The truth

Truthfully no one truly knows; it is more up to speculation of the person and the person’s beliefs; many trust scientists, but some believe it is more than that, that it involves religion and the paranormal.
