This year, Roswell High School’s chorus is hitting all the right notes as they approach this season full of upcoming performances and new challenges. RHS Chorus has already performed at many different community events including singing the national anthem at the girls’ volleyball game on Aug. 27, a Roswell High School home football game, and at the 10th Annual Team Maggie 5k/10k on Sep. 14. They also welcomed middle schoolers on 8th grade night.
The current chorus teacher is Dr. Stanton Usher, and the co-presidents of the choral board are: senior Madison Reep and junior Lauren Williams, secretary junior Macy Griffin, the social media VP junior Ali Shearer, class representatives freshman Annabelle Breaux, senior Hannah Reep, senior Peyton Maynard, sophomore Tre’ Jeter, and junior Julia Sjogren.
Usher shares his excitement about what’s to come for Chorus in the next few months and said, “We have a fall concert coming up on October 10th, next Thursday, and it will feature all of our choirs. In November, we have a huge concert coming up which is what we call ‘Sing and Swing,’ and it is all singing and dancing to songs from Broadway and movies.”
Co-President Madison Reep also adds, “The sing and swing concert is where our audience gets to have dessert while dancing along to the musical numbers we perform.”
The schedule for December brings a holiday theme and several performances for RHS Chorus on Dec. 5, Dec. 8, and Dec. 13. Usher said, “We have our pyramid concert, which features our feeder elementary schools, our feeder middle schools as well as Roswell High School. Our chamber choir will be in concert with the world-renowned Atlanta Vocal Project, they are ranked number 3 in the world, and the concert will be at the Roswell Cultural Arts Center. Finally, in December we are hosting a concert at RHS with the Atlanta Vocal Project.”
In addition to Chorus’ busy schedule, they also have high goals for the season. Secretary Macy Griffin said, “One of our goals this season is to try and unite our sounds and blend our voices better in all of the music we sing.”
Reep adds to this with a few other goals in mind. She said, “A big goal for this season is making sure we score high at LGPE, our competition, along with recruiting more people to join chorus and show how fun it is to make music through singing!”
With all that’s to come, the RHS Chorus group has already shared so many memories over the past few years that will continue this year with a March 2025 trip to London. Griffin said, “My favorite memory is going to New York with the Chorus group, it was so fun.” Reep agrees and said, “My favorite memory was when we saw ‘Hadestown’ on Broadway in New York City. I had the best time with all of my friends.”
