Hey hornets! My name is Emerson Keith, and I am the current Editor-in-Chief for the Roswell Sting. I have been on The Sting Staff since my freshman year, starting as a staff writer and working my way up. I stepped into the sports editor position my sophomore year and took on that role through my junior year as well. It is truly surreal, that not only am I a senior this year, but I have obtained the position I have always longed for since August of 2021.
I chose this class as an elective going into my 9th grade year because I knew I liked to write, and I was good at it. What I didn’t know is that this class would provide me with materials and skills to equip me for my future goals, challenge me mentally and physically in ways I never imagined, and as cliché as it is to say, give me some of my best friends.
When I am not writing I am probably sleeping (just kidding). One of my biggest passions are sports. You’ll often find me checking the live score on my phone while I am in the middle of doing something, tuning in to the live broadcast through my air pods, or sitting next my dad or best friend yelling at the TV. My Dad introduced me to sports after a serious injury took me away from my former passion, dance. Ever since, our conversations during the day consist of “Who is on the mound tonight for the Braves?” or “What time does UGA play Saturday?” and I would not have it any other way. All of this to say, sports have not just become a hobby, but a significant part of my life, and it is a field I plan to pursue in the future.
Other than sports, I enjoy going to concerts, watching a good movie, hanging out with my dog (who’s basically my favorite person), attending sporting events, and spending time with my friends and my family.
Aside from The Sting, I am involved in many other school activities. I played flag football my sophomore and junior year for the school, ultimately for the experience. I also joined the track and field team sophomore year to throw discus and shotput, and I am now going into my senior season for it.
Over my four years at Roswell, I have been involved in various clubs, but the most impactful by far has been student council. My freshman year I served as the vice president of my class, then as a representative for the two years following. This year, I was elected to the senior executive board as the co-communication director alongside my co-head, Madison Reep. The ten of us on the board have worked hard this year to boost school spirit at Roswell and give the class of 2025 the most memorable year.
I am just one of the many students here at Roswell who are involved in a multitude of extracurriculars. On The Sting, our staff strives to get coverage of all things Roswell. Whether it is our hardworking sports teams, our incredibly talented performing arts groups, or our amazing staff here, we are determined to shine light to any and every aspect. On our staff alone, we have many different personalities and skills that help contribute and make this paper what it is.
This newspaper means more to me than I ever thought it would. I highly recommend joining—even if it’s just to say you did it, to help your grade in your literature class, or maybe you actually do enjoy writing. Without this paper, I am not sure if I would have discovered my passion for reporting and decide to continue with it going into college.
I am attending the University of South Carolina as a freshman in the fall of 2025, and I couldn’t be more excited. I have many goals as I enter this new chapter, including continuing in my writing. I look forward to seeing how The Sting improves and how each of the younger staff writers and editors I have worked alongside grow.
Go Hornets Always!
