Baseball season is on its way which means time to get back in the swing of things. Tryouts have passed, and the team has started practice. Last year the varsity team had 16-15 overall. They had a batting average of .165, on base percentage of .261, 2 home runs, 20 stolen bases, era or earned run average of 2.43, and a fielding percentage of .946.  Coach Ben Sutter says, “I am excited about the upcoming baseball season.” Even after losing to Newnan High School in the first round of playoffs, they still had a great season.  “We are returning a lot of guys from the 2018 team and the experience they got in the playoffs last year will hopefully carry over to this season.” This gives more of a chance of advancing more into the playoffs. Later he says, “We have 9 returning seniors this year and will count on their leadership to get us back to the playoffs once again.” Players that are returning include David Burke, Riley DeCan, Jerry Backus, Matthew Nay, Trevor Gasgarth, Aaron Wright, Mike Convery, Luke Osthoff, Caden Long, Jacob Jarrett, Will Troutman, Alex Gruver, Christian Orr, Kyle D’Amour and Carson Koporc. Sutter says, “I like our chances of getting back to the playoffs. We play in the toughest region in the state, which always makes getting into the playoffs difficult, but we have been able to do so the last two seasons with teams consisting of our current seniors.” Keeping that in mind, the team has great players to set them in the right direction and all the returning players would agree with Coach Sutter when he says that they are going to make it to the playoffs again. Currently, the boys are getting ready for their first game against Wheeler High School that begins in February.
