The 2024 girls’ lacrosse season has just begun, and the team is back with high goals for the current season. This year’s Varsity roster consists of 32 players, ranging from freshmen to seniors. The season kicked off with tryouts and practices in the new year, and their first game was on Feb 9. Last year, the girls made it all the way to the 5A-6A State Championships, before an 11-5 loss to Blessed Trinity, making their goal this season making it back there and winning.
Regarding this season’s schedule, Arce said, “the schedule looks really hard, but I think if we all work together, we can come out with a win. The practices are tough, but we play like every day is a tryout, so we all try our hardest every day.”
On Feb 9, the team played against Walton High School at home and won 10-9. Since then, Varsity has had five more games, with many more to come. On Feb 14, Roswell competed against South Forsyth, losing 19-13. On Feb 15, Roswell was up against Pace Academy, and beat the team with the final score of 17-9. Another major win was Roswell’s next game, on Feb 22, against Lovett with the ending score 17-6.
On Feb 23, Roswell was up against Girls Prep and won again 13-5. They had another game on Feb 24, against Baylor, where once again, Varsity girls took home a win with a score of 16-4. Their last game was on February 28, against Westminster, and they won again 13-7. So far in the season, the team has won all but one game and is looking forward to excelling the rest of the season.
Sophomore varsity player Ana Arce said, “our goal for the season is to make it back to state playoffs.” With eight games to go, this goal is possible and can be achieved if the girls continue to work hard at practices.
After placing second in the state championship last season, the team picked up exactly where they left off, with fuel to make it back to the State Championship. Arce said, “The roster for this season is very different than last season’s, with so many seniors graduating and new freshman coming in. One thing that has stayed the same is that we still have so much talent on our team.”
Another Varsity player, freshman Emory Rodman said, “For the 2024 season, our goals would be to grow as a team all together and make it to the championship again and bring home a trophy! Our team has been killing it so far against the private schools that we have been playing.” Coming up this season, the girls have their region games. Rodman also said, “Our region games are just around the corner and the games against private schools are to prepare us.”
